Wish Grilling at Absolute Barbecues

perfect

With the tagline “India’s Favorite Grill Restaurant”, Absolute Barbecues or AB’s opened its second branch in Dubai around May this year. They opened their first branch along Sheikh Zayed Road in Media City in 2015. This branch, located in Deira (just opposite Deira City Center) has 120 seating capacity, each table equipped with live grille for an absolute grill dining experience.

With no prior table booking, the bestie and I visited the resto on a weekend and tried their buffet. The restaurant is expected to be fully packed during the weekend according to the reviews I read, but as opposed we only waited in minutes and was immediately provided a table for two. Perhaps a prior booking should be made if you’re a big group just to be sure. Buffet dinner is priced at AED85 during the weekend and AED75 during weekdays.

Starters are delivered to your table. The bestie loved the crispy corn and grilled pineapple (Yum!), as for me I liked the mayo potatoes. Barbecues are also provided on the grille consisting of chicken, prawns and fish. They also have a soup station.

For the mains, they have separate spread for vegetarian varieties and non-vegetarian dishes. Chicken dum biryani and buffalo wings were good!

One of the “attractions” of the resto is the Wish Grill, an open kitchen wherein you can watch the cook while preparing your dish on a massive hot plate. You can choose from a variety of vegetables mixed with your preference of seafood or meat which will then be mixed with your preference of rice or noodles. Turkey, duck, octopus, quail, squid, prawn and whatnot are among the ingredients to choose from plus the sauces. Your “wish” will be delivered to your table. The bestie opted for the seafood options while I tried a weird mix of roasted turkey, octopus, mushroom in AB’s dancing sauce and noodles. Delicioso!

Having serious sweet tooth, I know my way around sweets. Of course I tried everything from the selection which are mostly traditional Indian sweets (Duh! Indian restaurant!). I’m not really a fan of these sweets, they just taste blah to me (no offence my Indian friends! 🙂 ) so I got really disappointed. Anyway, they also have a fried ice cream station called Frozen Wish where you can create your own mix of ice cream and toppings. We had choco-vanilla with nuts, etc. and strawberry with nuts, etc. (Sorry, I forgot the other toppings. Haha!). We loved the latter!

Overall, the bestie was satisfied with the food while it was just ok for me. AB’s is a kind of resto that I would try once and never go back to. The service needs to be commended though. Shoutout to Kapil, the waitstaff who was annoyingly good, who kept checking on us every five minutes, interrupted our every bite that we ended up telling him “We’ll just call you if we need anything!”. Haha! (To AB’s Management: We recommend your staff Kapil for a better pay. Give him raise already!).
